Description
Archaeological watching brief undertaken in 2018 at Cobden Farm Quarry, Commonside, Chester Road, Little Budworth, CW6 9ER (NGR: SJ 58700 67400). The archaeological work was undertaken over 16 days between the 4th July and the 25th September 2018, and comprised the archaeological supervision of topsoil and subsoil (where
present) stripping of the quarry extension areas. No archaeological features were identified in either of the two extension areas during the topsoil and subsoil strip phase of the works.
Eleven non-designated heritage assets are recorded within the vicinity of the site. Furthermore, a cropmark was recorded as being present within the northern part of the quarry (now removed) and it is possible that prehistoric activity may be preserved within the site. The desk-based assessment concluded that there was a reasonable likelihood that archaeological remains of pre-historic date may be present within the proposed development site. (1)
