Description
Stratascan were commissioned to undertake a geophysical survey in June 2014 of an area outlined for development west of Fountain Lane, Davenham. The survey area was approximately 2.3 hectares of pasture; it was originally
intended to be approximately 4.7 hectares, however, 2.4 hectares of this were unsurveyable due to high vegetation. The survey detected a number of features of archaeological origin, including a double ditched field boundary, a possible linear cut feature and possible areas of historic industrial activity. Other features identified are likely modern or agricultural in origin. These include ploughing, services, land drains, magnetic disturbance from metallic gates and fences and a number of isolated ferrous objects causing magnetic spikes. (1)
