Description
Detailed building assessment undertaken in 2016 for buildings of the stable yard in Tatton Park, to the west of the Hall, in advance of proposed new building work and refurbishment of the existing buildings. The assessment included desk based research and a detailed record of the buildings both by drawn and photographic means. During 2016, a full external and internal laser scan of the buildings was undertaken and a series of floor plans, elevations, and cross-sections produced in AutoCAD. Hard copies of these, at scales of 1:50, were then printed and modified in the field with additional archaeological detail.
These estate structures date between the late eighteenth century and the nineteenth centuries and include a grade II listed stable block (North Stable Block) designed by Samuel Wyatt; a second set of stables (South Stable Block); a coach house (part of the South Stables); the Gardner's House and its outbuilding; the Gardner's Bothy (part of the South Stables); the Bacon Curing Shed and an outbuilding. The north garden wall, which forms the rear elevation of the South Stable, is also Grade II listed. All buildings are owned by the National Trust and recorded in the National Trust HER. The study also included a topographic survey extending across an area of some 2.56 hectares, including land to the north and west of the buildings. A number of lost buildings and features were also identified. (1)
