Description

The entirety of the c3,270m² site was stripped of topsoil with a maximum excavation of 120mm and 16.56m² over 37 postholes were excavated to varying depths of 650-800mm. The site strip exposed no features of archaeological interest. The excavation of the postholes confirmed the stratigraphic sequence of deposits recorded during the site strip and revealed the depth and form of drainage ditch. The natural horizon was only exposed across 16.56m² and the depth and extent of this scheme of works means the true extrent of the archaeological resource of the site remains largely unknown, however it has shown that the potential for archaeological remains is extremely limited; not only lacking in archaeological cut features and deposits within the excavated areas but also having no presence of residual artefacts.
