Description
Desk-based assessment which identifies a number of sites of archaeological potential within and around the development site including a post-medieval farm, two cropmarks likely to be ponds and a wood, possibly of medieval origin. A post-medieval mill, and a kiln lay close to , although just south of the development area.
In total, 21 sites of archaeological interest were identified, including a single Scheduled Monument – Barrow Old Hall (Site 03). The majority are post-medieval in date, and are unlikely to be affected by the proposed development. However, it was considered likely that eight may be affected, and further mitigation work is recommended to allow suitable recording. Of particular interest is the close proximity
of the development area to Burtonwood Airfield (Site 09).
