Description

An archaeological watching brief of the site was undertaken in relation to the principal groundworks for the development. Notably those in excess of 0.5m from the modern ground surface. This investigation found that the dark brown sandy clay overlying the stiff natural clay was a well developed soil, produced by ploughing over many centuries. This finding accords with map evidence and the HLC characterisation of this area as medieval town fields.
