Description

Research and Recording Report Summary: House of 1829 by Lewis Wyatt with walled garden and parkland of 90 acres – for 100 years the local centre of wealth and influence. The site underwent radical changes when it became one of Cheshire’s largest psychiatric hospitals and again, when the hospital site was divided and sold for re-development. The report is based on these 3 phases of development: I) The gentleman’s residence 1829 – 1929 II) Cranage Hall Hospital 1929 – 1995 III) Cranage Hall Hotel / private housing estate / farmland from 1996 Principal features remaining: • Exterior of Cranage Hall (Grade II, LEN: 1277460) • Ponds, bridge and cascade of Edwardian water garden • Specimen and parkland trees • Old drive • Entry piers and walls (remains)
