Site Event/Activity record ECH6210 - Land to the east of Royal London Campus, Wilmslow. Heritage Desk-Based Assessment

This heritage desk-based assessment considers land to the east of Royal London Campus, Wilmslow. In accordance with government policy (National Planning Policy Framework), the assessment draws together the available archaeological, historic, topographic and land-use information in order to clarify the heritage significance and archaeological potential of the site. The assessment has concluded that based on the available evidence, the site has low potential for remains of all archaeological periods. No evidence has been encountered which suggests that remains of national importance are likely to be present on the site and thus that its development would be unacceptable or severely constrained. In light of this limited archaeological potential, it is suggested that should any further archaeological works be required, they could be undertaken as post permission works by the imposition of an appropriate planning condition. There are no Scheduled Monuments, Conservation Areas, Grade I and Grade II* Listed Buildings, Registered Parks and Gardens, and Historic Battlefields which will be impacted upon by the proposed development. The only designated assets which have the theoretical potential to be impacted upon by the development are Fulshaw Hall and the Staff Restaurant c. 30 north of Fulshaw Hall (both of which are Grade II Listed). However, it is considered that both these buildings will not be visible to the west from the site, as dense vegetation and trees will block views. Therefore, a neutral effect from the development is considered on the contribution that the setting provides to the significance of these two buildings.
