Description

Excavation as part of PHd research of the author on the reasons behind the construction and location of Norman castles. Trench excavated in 1999 to investigate an anomaly shown on an earlier geophysical survey which may indicate a rectangular structure running lengthways east to west in the North of the Bailey. A single trench 6x8 m was located over the south eastern corner of the resistivity anomaly. The whole of the excavation was carried out by hand. Finds reports on pottery, bone and small finds.
