When archaeologists of the Cheshire Archaeology Planning Advisory Service aware of the circumstances of the work carried out on 25/11/2015 on 26/11/2015 and visited the site. At this point the sub-contractors had left for the day, repairs had been completed, and the trenches were to be backfilled the next day.
The trenches had been excavated to some depth up against the south face of the Scheduled City wall. These extended for some 10m along the face of the wall and were centred on SJ 4006 6582. There was no damage to the wall and all of the excavated strata appeared modern and associated with the fill of the service trench.
