Description
A site off Wrexham Road, Chester is proposed for development, the site is currently an open field with no internal boundaries.
There is little evidence for prehistoric activity in the area. During the Roman period the site was within the agricultural hinterland and a Romano British farmstead was recently discovered at the site of Chester Business park, 1 km south of the site.
The west side of the site follows the ancient boundary of the liberties of Chester known as the "Great Ditch", this remains an open and wet ditch.
There are Ridge and Furrow Earthworks on the site. The width of these changes across the site may reflect a lost boundary shown on Historic maps or the continuation of an open field system within the area until the early post medieval period
Development of the site would impact any buried remains and the ridge and furrow earthworks. Further assessment of the site may be required to determine the presence of buried remains. It is recommended that the earthworks are surveyed prior to any development.
