Description
Heritage assessment produced by Cotswold Archaeology in February 2015 on behalf of Solar Energy Parks Ltd for a proposed solar development on land opposite Station Road, Penketh, Warrington.
No known heritage assets are located within the proposed development site. However, tidal flat deposits are mapped in the south-eastern area of the site indicating that it was a saltmarsh environment in the prehistoric and Roman periods. Additionally rectangular cropmarks recorded in the north-western and south-eastern parts of the study area beyond the proposed development site may represent Iron Age or Romano-British settlement. From the medieval period onwards the site seems to have formed part of the rural hinterland of Penketh.
