Description

Watching brief was to identify and record any archaeological features or deposits exposed during groundworks. A Metal detecting survey was carried out in order to identify any areas of interest that may be present on the site. No archaeological features were present within the areas monitored, the stratigraphy showed a layer of topsoil, below which was a build up of redeposited clays and modern debris layers, overlaying the natural. A modern dumping deposit was identified at the northeast corner of the site, which contained a mixed collection of bottles spanning in date from the 18th to the 20th century. Metal detecting finds collected from the site were mainly 20th century in date and represent a dump of non-hazardous waste which appears to have been deposited on the site in the late 20th century. Two Medieval lead weights were recovered from the site. However, it is likely that these represent imported residual finds from the dumped material.
