Description

Research and recording carried out by the Cheshire Gardens Trust at Hefferston Grange. An 18th century hall built on the site of an earlier monastic grange, with gardens and parkland. The property was developed as a sanatorium in the 1930s and has become a small executive housing development with the hall and stables retained and converted and some features and planting of the ornamental gardens retained within areas of private garden and communal areas. The principal remaining features are: Mansion house (1741) Conservatory (footprint from the late C19) Stables (early – mid C18 – date from 1700 to 1766 with C20 alterations, date from 1900 - 1999) now a storehouse, has a weathervane Farm buildings (mid C18) Walled garden (mid C18) – now in multiple ownership Ha-ha (possibly 18th C) Ice House (circa 1741)3 – listed Grade II 2 lodges (circa 1741) East and West Fishpond - possibly [rectangular] (medieval – 1066 to 1539 AD) and pond or marlpit [18th century] Moat – possibly (medieval – 1066 to 1539 AD) Gate piers leading to farm track Evergreen shrubbery and stone steps
