Description
Pre determination Archaeological evaluation of an area of open land c.1ha west of 7 King Street, Middlewich. Eleven trenches recorded evidence of Romano-British occupation and industrial activity, mainly in the north-eastern half of the site. Large boundary ditches, smaller settlemet gullies, circular pits, industrial features and a possible well are recorded in this area. 1st and 2nd century Roman ceramics recovered. Indications are that industrial activity on the site was taking place from the mid 1st up to end of the 2nd century AD in an area that relates to the south west edge of the known Roman settlement at Middlewich. Evidence of waterlogged wood and worked timbers present.
