Description
Flexible and phased programme of of archaeological works as precise potential of the site was unknown. Excavation of three linear trenches to rapidly evaluate the potential line of the roman road ahead of building groundworks. The three trenches excavated close to the Wet Lane Street frontage have demonstrated the presence of an archaeological sequence, comprising surfaces, deposits and structures dating to the post-medieval period. The line of the postulated roman road, (which may be perpetuated in the modern road that heads towards Chester) was not identified during the investigations.
