Description
Archaeological recording that took place in March 2007, recording archaeological features and deposits on a room by room basis. Each room was cleared of debris and rubble following the stripping out of the interior wall levels and their plaster. The soils exposed beneath the former floor levels were then cleaned manually and any features and deposits recorded, no additional excavation was undertaken at this time. Further work to be undertaken as part of SMC (Scheduled Monument Consent) for the site.) This clean up and recording excercise has demonstrated that in may rooms, archaeological features and deposits associated with the early development and history of the current building do survive.
