Description
Chester Archaeological Society had previously undertaken some resistivity survey in this area following the discovery of a large number of Roman coins and other items of metalwork during a metal detecting rally. Further resistivity survey was undertaken in 2011 and a test pit was opened at the location of one of the high resistance anomalies. The test pit revealed a line of large stones looking like the line of a wall. The test pit was extended and it became clear that the feature was much more irregular and sat partially within the natural fluvio-glacial sands and gravels of the area.
