Description
Pre-determination evaluation at Backford Hall, Cheshire in advance of submission of an application for housing development. In May 2014, four trenches were excavated and found boundary ditches, refuse pits, a demolition deposit and possible ha-ha, all of which potentially predate the current phase of the hall. Later features connected with the current phase of the hall included land and waste drainage and a boundary ditch.
This evaluation has provided a chronology for the structural narrative of the site which ranges from the 13th/14th century to the 19th century.
