Site Event/Activity record ECH5920 - Land to the West of Tattenhall Road, Tattenhall, Chester, Cheshire.

An assessment on land to the west of Tattenhall Road, Tattenhall. Archaeological, historical and structural evidence indicates a low potential for prehistoric and Roman archaeological remains on the site. Evidence of prehistoric settlement is virtually absent within the vicinity of the site while all of the Roman archaeological remains have been discovered to the south of the site. There is no evidence for early medieval settlement on the site, although the village of Tattenhall is recorded in the Domesday Book. The medieval evidence for the site indicates that it would have comprised rural open strip-fields for use as pastureland which were later enclosed. The site's HLC classification as an Ancient Fieldscape signifies that the site may have the potential to reveal medieval agricultural or domestic features. Cartographic evidence indicates that the site has remained undeveloped pastureland since the late l61h century. The site lies to the north of the post-medieval historic core of the village and as such has not been affected by residential development. As the site has remained undeveloped, the likelihood of the survival of archaeological remains on the site is moderate. As it is classified as part of an Ancient Fieldscape, it is more likely that archaeological remains of medieval date would be discovered, if any.
