Description
Ahead of construction works associated with a residential development, 12 evaluation trenches were excavated to assess the archaeological potential of the proposed development site. The results have confirmed the line of a Roman road that once traversed the site. The findings have also resulted in the definitiion of a hitherto unknown area of archaeological sensitivity, close to the south east corner and consisting of features or medieval, or earlier date. These features include; parallel ditches containing well-preserved organic deposits, traces of timber structure(s) and a metalled track (hollow-way). Vulnerability of the archaeology identified will depend upon the extent of disturbance associated with the forthcoming development.
