Description
A site visit was carried out by Chester Archaeology in connection to test pits that were excavated when water seepage issues appeared at Browns of Chester, Eastgate Street, in November 2000. No archaeologically significant finds or features were reported, but it is significant that bedrock was found below the wood-block flooring. The implication being that there is no below-ground archaeology in the area of the 'landing' (where the small trenches were opened), and also that the main floor level is laid directly on bedrock (1).
