Description
An archaeological evaluation was carried out on land at City House, City Road to assess the archaeological potential of the site to inform a programme of work to mitigate the impact of development proposals. Five trenches were excavated, two in the car park north of City House and three in the car park to the south of City House.
Five main phases of activity were recognised comprising agricultural use, refuse deposition, housing development in the south of the site, the chapel construction in the south of the site and the modern use of the the land. The earliest datable evidence comes from the 19th century when the site was used for domestic refuse disposal.
