Description
As part of an environmental impact assessment of proposed development at the Chester Central Business District, an assessment of the archaeology and built heritage has been undertaken by Donald Insall Associates. The proposed development is considered in terms of known and potential impact on buried and surface heritage assets. Any identified heritage assets are given a value and combined with a predicted magnitude of impact, an overall assessment of significant effect is made. Historic structures, including conservation areas, statutory listed buildings and locally listed buildings, are included in the assessment in terms of physical direct effects (demolition or alteration) and indirect effects (visual, setting impact). Where appropriate, mitigation is proposed to address the impact of the proposed development. The archaeology and built heritage assets are discussed in relation to the proposed development site. Heritage assets known from the vicinity of the site (a zone or buffer of 200m) are also considered given that their location can indicate the presence of hitherto unidentified assets within the site, can indicate indirect effects posed by the proposed development and can provide a general picture of the known archaeological historical background of the area.
