Description

Archaeological investigations at Merrick's Hill, Eddisbury in 2011. The work was carried out by the University of Liverpool between 25th July and 19th August 2011 as part of the wider Habitats and Hillforts Project. In total five trenches were excavated. The aims of the project included the assessment of woodland damage, the extent of recent investigations by John Edwards, Varley's 1936 excavations, relocate and sample material from the northern stone revetted rampart, the associated Iron Age occupation and the pre rampart palisade trench.
