Description

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken between July and October 2010 and September and October 2011 on the prehistoric hill top enclosure known as Eddisbury Hillfort, Eddisbury Hill, Delamere, Cheshire, (SM 25692) NGR SJ 5532 6933. The work was undertaken by the Habitats and Hillforts of Cheshire’s Sandstone Ridge Landscape Partnership Project. The aims of the evaluation were to characterise the archaeological resource and assess the impact of the present management regime within the site. The fieldwork comprised fourteen evaluation trenches. All excavation was undertaken by hand using appropriate hand tools. Bulk samples of a minimum 60 litres were taken from appropriate contexts for the recovery and assessment of environmental data.
