Description
An evaluation trench was excavated as part of the assessment for a proposed hydropower scheme on land next to Crag Lodge, Wildboarclough, Cheshire, within the Peak District National Park. The trench measured 3m by 2m and was excavated to a depth of 0.6m where natural sandy subsoil was encountered. A refuse dump, formed by the accumulation of domestic waste adjacent to the Clough Brook, was the only deposit of archaeological interest. This contained material dating to the late 17th to the early 18th centuries, predating the earliest known occupation of the site by approximately 100 years.
