Description

A desk-based assessment, to determine the archaeological potential of an area to the south-east of Cotton Hall prior to development. The site of a small post-medieval clay pit is believed to impinge on the eastern side of the application area. No other remains are known to certainly exist in within this area. However, Middlewich Road may follow the course a Roman road. The location of the deserted medieval settlement of Cotton is not known, though the proximity of Cotton Hall, which is stated to have originated as a manorial complex, raises the possibility of its lying in the locality.
