Description

Programme of archaeological work carried out on Morgan's Mount on the North Wall between July 2011 and February 2012 as part of a planned series of repair and renovation to the tower. The work consisted of the removal and rebuilding of the access stairs to the wall and the adjacent stretch of the City Wall itself. The earchaeological investigations consisted of the excavation of four small trial pits and intermittent cleaning, excavation and recording as part of a long term watching brief. The excavations revealed evidence of the first century clay rampart and the Roman stone revetment wall.
