Description

Archaeological desk based assessment carried out on site of the Odeon Cinema (Chester Theatre). The aim of the project was to provide a detailed plan of the site in relation to the archaeological evidence and to assess the potential for below ground survival of archaeological features. A summary of the archeaological potential cautioned that while it was impossible to estimate the degree of survival of below ground archaeological features, there was a good potential for Roman remains of several barrack blocks, a possible hospital structure, a store building and several road surfaces. The potential for Saxon evidence is currently uncertain. The potential for medieval evidence is moderate due to the higher degree of modern truncation. The potential for post medieval and modern evidence is high.
