Description
series of trial holes excavated on the site to the rear of the Masonic Lodge. The position of the trial holes was to verify the existence and state of preservation of the barrack blocks and centurion's quarters, determine the probable layout and full extent of the buildings and locate the most productive position for a full scale excavation.
Excavations revealed Roman deposits at a depth of c.1.67m.
