Description

Electrical resistance and caesium magnetometer surveys were carried out at the promontory fort at Kelsborrow, covering the interior and overlapping some of the former ramparts. Good evidence for the form of these ramparts was recovered, including signs of a possible palisade trench or similar structure along the top of the bank. No clear indications of an entrance were found although a gap where the present pond is could easily have accommodated a gate structure. It is possible that two short sections of ditch running northwards from the ramparts indicate the presence of an annexe on this side but insufficient length was within the surveyed area to give an idea of form. No internal features that could be identified as relevant to hill fort were found.
