Description
Shoemaker's Row (Northgate St. West), 1897: Red sandstone altar recorded near the base of the columns of the Praetorium (1-4). The excavations also subsequently recorded several column bases extending into the adjacent property. All were left in situ (3). In 1926 the location was Vernon's Toy Shop (5). In 1963 the premises were occupied by Nola Gowns (7)
A line of column bases on an east-west alignment were noted with a total of five bases found and spaces for a further two. It is suggested that these bases formed part of the judgement hall of the principia (7)
