Description

Continuation of the City Wall Consolidation programme along the East Wall in 1983. Survey identified Roman structural evidence in the wall as well as produced detailed plans of the berm and extant wall. The northern wall of this lost medieval tower was recorded near Kaleyard's Cottage. Its relationship with the Roman masony demonstrates that the superstructure of the latter had been dismantled to accomodate the tower (1). Work carried out during consolidation repairs in 1988-1989 on the East wall, referred to as sites KIII and KIV in the Defences Monograph (2)
