Description
Survey of the Weir in Chester carried out in the summer of 1995 in order to find out more about how it was built, produce a set of detailed drawings and make recommendations for its preservation. The main discovery was that the back of the weir, the side facing upstream, rises almost vertically from the river bed to the surface with a maximum surviving drop of 5.5m. An examination of the fish traps cofirmed the presence of dressed boulders stretching almost completely across the river to the base of the bridge on the northern bank.
