Description

Excavations at New Crane Street in advance of proposals to redevelop the site. Trial trenching revealed evidence of several phases of a nineteenth century smithy and sandstone lined cellar (1). An earlier sandstone boundary wall was also recorded, comprised of massive sandstone blocks, their purpose was to stabilise the riverbank (3).
