Description
Renovation work revealed a medieval stone lined cellar. The timber floor above it has been recorded and it is hoped that a dendro date for the floor will be forthcoming (1).
Dendrochronological dating recorded in the VAG Dendrochronology Database for 73 Watergate Street taken in 1998 (Project Ref CWG98). A total of 17 samples were taken from timbers during the removal of timber framing over a cellar of possible medieval date. Of the ten samples containing sufficient rings only one was dated providing a date of around 1220-1320 AD (2)
