Description

Bridge Street, 1854: Part of a tesselated black and white pavement recorded from the premises of Messrs Beckett's (has also been dated to 1852) on the site of the so called Roman baths (1) The hypocaust is likely an extension of that previously recorded in the 18th century (2). Of the previously reported 32 pillars, only 28 remained. The ante chamber was noted on the western side of the room (3).
