Description
North Wall, 1884: reference to substantial Roman mortar from the Wall (1)
Eastgate Street, 1884: Fragment of an altar near the Grosvenor Hotel, just inside the walls (2). (4) (5)
Eaton Rd., 1884: In a two-foot wide trench excavated for water pipes, a Roman road, two or three feet below the surface, was traced for a distance for '600 yards' northwards from Green Bank (3).
Lower Bridge St. East, 1884: First century urn burials were found at the site of the stable and bakehouse adjoining St Olave's St., in rear of Mather's House (3).
