Description

Report contains the results of the fourth phase of an archaeological impact assessment undertaken during March 2002 in the area to the rear of Watergate Street. The general location will form part of a larger redevelopment proposal in the Northgate area. No archaeological features were recorded in Test pit 16 althoguh it has been concluded that significant remains probably lie beneath the 1m plus soil overburden. An 18th century pit, probably containing materials discarded during internal building works nearby, was identified in test pit 17 however.
