Description
Observations made during the cutting of an electricity cable trench across King Street (close to the junction with the footpath leading down to the United Utilities station on Morton's Field) to link in to BT junction box. The trench was c 0.6m deep and c 0.3m wide. As such, most of the section exposed only modern road make up and the fill of modern service trenches. But in places a rammed gravel was apparent, although it was impossible to tell whether this was ancient (the Roman road) or more recent surfaces. In places, the characteristic grey subsoil (commonly seen in excavation between the topsoil and natural caly/sand was observed bu there were no artefacts of interest.
