Description
Site visit accompanied by Mike Westwood, Clerk of Works Grosvenor Estate. An 'L' shaped foundation trench at the rear of the property approx 1 m deep. The workmen reported that no artefacts had been found and none were visible in the spoil on the site. The ground conditions were wet and the base of the trench was obscured by water. The walls of the trench revealed yellowish brown clay overlain by ground make up and remains of previous construction debris and old service trenches - garden soil, bricks, rubble etc. According to the workmen the clay is mainly redeposited fill from previous activity on the site but in the section of trench closest to the back wall of the property a yellow sandy clay is present which is thought to be natural. Photos were supplied by MW and are attached in associated files.
