Plot to the Rear of the Pharmacy, High Street, Farndon: Archaeology (Ref 09/11313/FUL)
This is just to confirm that I visited the above development yesterday morning in order to check for archaeological deposits. No archaeological remains were encountered but it did provide a valuable opportunity to examine the strata, which on this site consisted of a great depth of topsoil, overlying a stiff clay, which in turn overlay the degraded sandstone bedrock. The great depth of topsoil, perhaps imported, was a bit of a surprise as it suggests that in this part of the settlement any archaeological deposits cut into the bedrock will be quite deeply buried. This will assist in assessing the impact of future developments in the area.
I advise that the archaeological work is now complete and that any outstanding archaeological condition may be discharged. Please get in touch if you have any queries.
