Description
An archaeological watching brief monitoring groundworks relating to improvements to the surface at the Groves, Chester, to the west of Dee Bridge, south of city walls and north of river (1). The whole site was excavated to a depth between 0.3 - 0.4m, and two small trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.75m below surface in the northeast and southwest of the area to accommodate street lighting cables. A nineteenth century context, similar to one reported from Castle Drive, was identified in one of these trenches, but no other archaeological deposits are reported (1).
