Description

An archaeological Watching Brief for Land at Wesley Centre, Chester for Wesley Development Ltd. Evaluation comprised the excavation of three 1m x 1m test pits in the courtyards of the main building. The watching brief was undertaken on excavations for a new women's toilet. To the western edge a brick structure was identified. It is thought that this is the remains of an early nineteenth century small outbuilding that was integrated into the courtyard between 1853 and 1872. The twentieth century courtyard surface and associated make up extended to a depth of 0.45m below current ground level. No deposits predating the eighteenth century were revealed within the maximum excavation depth of 0.6m (1).
