Description
Data for the assessment was gathered for a study area of 1km based on the pipeline centre line. This identified 283 archaeological sites and three Conservation Areas. One of the Conservation Areas, the Trent and Mersey Canal, is crossed by the proposed pipeline. Of the 283 archaeological sites identified, one is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Listed Building, one is a Historic Park, 53 are Listed Buildings, 225 are non-scheduled archaeological sites and three are records for archaeological events. Of the 283 sites, 207 are too far from the route for there to be any significance of impact from the proposed pipeline. One site of High importance, Crewe Hall Park, is crossed by the proposed pipeline. Thirty-five sites of medium importance (including the Trent and Mersey Canal, mentioned as a Conservation Area, above), thirty-one sites of low importance and nine sites of uncertain importance could be impacted by the proposed pipeline. The impacts on these 76 sites are discussed in the report. There is a seperate report on the results of the geophysical survey.
