Description
The plot of land is one of a series of terraces on southern slopes of the hill topped by the parish church and the aim of the exercise was to gather information on the origin of the terracing. Machine clearance had started but ground still much overgrown with much rubbish. New entrance way cut by ① on map off Church Street through retaining wall (Mortared Gritstone) only modern accumulations to plan. The walling of site terracing of brick (traces of C19th terraced housing visible) or gritstone walling - in some instances (especially ②) gritstone walling quite high but does not appear ancient.
