Description
The report was undertaken on behalf of the owners of the site, the Chapter of Chester Cathedral, to inform their possible future enhancement of the site. The survival of Roman structures and horizons can be divided into three zones - western, central and eastern. In the western and eastern zones, Roman levels generally lie at a depth of between 1 to 2m and there is a high potential for further archaeological evidence in the area. The central zone comprising the lower terrace of the garden appears to have been significantly truncated by modern landscaping. In this area, if remains do survive, they are likely to lie at a very shallow depth.
