Description

Two shallow, linear foundation trenches were excavated. The results have confirmed that inhumation burials of quite high status, including a burial with a lead coffin, survive at a very shallow depth. Although the date of the burials observed is uncertain, it seems likely that the once lay within the south aisle of the medieval church that once stood on the site. The watching brief also provided the opportunity to examine the nineteenth century foundation work of the Guildhall building.
