Description
Following development proposals by the Church Commissioners for the installation of a new office entrance, a watching brief was carried out to the east of the Bishop's House. It was evident that a complex sequence of north-south walls were cut by the foundation trenches. These followed generally the line of the boundary on the eastern side of the property, extending northwards. In the earliest phase exposed, there were also the remains of an east west wall in the base of the foundation trench. Various soil deposits accumulated around and above these structures. The excavation was clearly of insufficient depth to intrude into the earliest levels of occupation.
